JESUS, The Christmas Story

A Spectacular Musical
“JESUS, The Christmas Story”
Mary Ellen Chase says “Christmas is not a date, it is a state of
mind”. Hamilton Wright Mabie shares “Blessed is the season which
engages the world in a conspiracy of love!” Dr. Seuss quips
“Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store, maybe Christmas
perhaps means a little bit more...!”
This glorious season is often celebrated in conjunction with the
year-end family holiday, shopping and partying, thus concluding
the year in celebratory cheer and welcoming the New Year in high
spirits. But Christmas is not just about shopping, holidays and
exchanging of gifts. Yes, Dr Seuss, it is more!
Calvary Church Kuala Lumpur is proud to present to the city of
Kuala Lumpur, the musical “Jesus,
The Christmas Story”. This musical
will be held at
Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang,
on the 23rd December 2011, Friday
at 8pm and
24th December, Saturday, at 5pm.
It promises to further enrich the Christmas celebration among
loved ones & friends and those who would like to experience
something more than the usual shopping, eating and merry-making.
This musical revolves around the true meaning of Christmas,
which is birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is both a
historical figure, written about in the Bible, as well as the
living Saviour to Christians around the world.
“This musical will be awesome!” Kevin Atienza Chan &
Balachandran Navaratnam, the church’s Christmas production and
drama coordinators exclaimed. “This year’s musical will be
different from the past concert-based presentations. There will
be more story-telling, enhanced by the usage of impressive LED
screens and creative lightings. In addition, there will be
certain technical innovations in our drama, music and dance
capabilities. The rehearsals, that commenced months back, saw
the production team practicing very diligently!”

The drama will be told
by an Inn-Keeper and narrated by three angels, in a contemporary
and humorous way, yet preserving the originality of the nativity
story.
“Various genres of music and dances ranging from Ballads, Motown,
Hip-Hop, Soul & Jazz, are fused to deliver a classical
entertainment in a refreshing manner”, said Chan, who had been
involved in the church music and creative arts ministry for
several years.
The songs were adapted from the albums “Colors of Christmas” and
“Portraits of Christmas”, that have a unique and eclectic mix of
high-energy celebration songs, warm nostalgic moments and
contemporary arrangements. The song and style choices are
compiled by the well-known composer Phil Barfoot and arranged by
veteran church music arranger Lari Goss.
To add to the meaningfulness of the celebration, the church’s
Senior Pastor, Reverend Tan Sri Prince Guneratnam, will deliver
hope-filled messages every night. Interpretation into Cantonese
and Bahasa Malaysia will be available.
“The musical is the church’s gift to our beloved city.
Thus, admission to the musical is
free!
Come with your family and friends
and enjoy a fun-filled experience. It will not only be
unforgettable but life-changing. More than 7,000 enjoyed and
were blessed in our Easter Celebration held at the same venue
this year. We are expecting no less than that for Christmas!”
added Navaratnam.
On Christmas Day, Sunday, 25
December 2011, at 10am, the church
will be meeting at the same venue for a special Christmas
celebration. A Children Joy Celebration for kids aged 5-11 &
nursery care for children aged 8 months – 4 years will be held
simultaneously. Admission for this special service is also free.
Located in the heart of the city, Wisma MCA is easily accessible
and within walking distance from the Ampang Park LRT station
which is a public transportation hub for LRT, taxis and buses.
